A Work of GodOctober 24, 2020
John Wesley’s classic sermon The Scripture Way of Salvation derives its largest claims from Paul’s Letter to the Ephesians: “You are saved by God’s grace because of your faith. This salvation is God’s gift. It’s not something you possessed” - Ephesians 2:8 God saves us, through God’s grace, by our faith. It’s a gift. It’s not ours. In other words, salvation is a work of God … and a gift we accept. The purpose of this gift? To make us more like Jesus. To make us into Jesus. For the sake, not just of us, but the world and its people. But, what does it mean to be ‘saved’? How does it work? Who does the saving? And what is our part to play in God’s work on our behalf? For the next five weeks, we’re talking about salvation and how to live out God’s work in us and for us. Salvation is a work of art. It’s a work of God.
